HC Deb 16 June 1977 vol 933 cc219-20W
Mr. Forman

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the latest estimate of the total construction costs of the five advanced gas-cooled reactor power stations now on order; by what date it is now expected that all five will have been completed; and what will be their combined electrical output capacity.

Mr. Benn,

Pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 26th May 1977; Vol. 932, c. 538], gave the following information:

The latest estimate of the total cost of construction—excluding nuclear fuel—of the four AGR stations for the CEGB, and the one AGR station for the SSEB—which is the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland—is about £1,150 million. This figure is the current estimated actual cost —i.e., at prices as actually paid or anticipated to be paid in the future—excluding initial fuel costs. The programme is expected to be completed in 1980. The total designed nominal station capacity of these stations is 6,480 MW.
