asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what are the names and occupations of members of the North-East London Metropolitan Area Health Authority covering the Basildon area with effect from 1st August 1977.

Appointments of members of area health authorities are made by the regional health authority and local authority concerned—in the case of Essex AHA, the North-East Thames RHA and Essex County Council. The North-East Thames RHA is sending my hon. Friend a list of the appointments from 1st August. My right hon. Friend appoints area health authority chairmen. In the case of Essex AHA he has reappointed Mrs. I. Coker.
