HC Deb 28 July 1977 vol 936 c601W
Mr. Patrick Jenkin

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the reason for the fall in the number of mentally handicapped persons between 1973 and 1976, as outlined in his reply to the hon. Member for Basildon (Mr. Moonman), Official Report, 19th July, columns 410–11.

Mr. Ennals

The reason for the fall in the number of visits to mentally handicapped persons by health visitors between 1973 and 1976 is not immediately apparent although organisational changes such as the increasing attachment of health visitors to general practice may have affected the overall pattern of health visitors' work. I am looking into the specific matters raised by the right hon. Member and will write to him.
