§ Mr. Gryllsasked the Secretary of State for Industry, further to his reply to the honourable Member for Surrey, North-West on 16th November concerning the sector working party on the non-ferrous foundry industry, what action has been taken on recommendations (a) and (b), which were under consideration by the Department.
Mr. Alan Williams,pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 27th July 1977;Vol. 936, c. 252.], gave the following information:
On (a), none. The scheme could not be modified to allow subsidy where fewer than 10 employees face redundancy, without involving a disproportionate increase in administrative costs relative to the small number of jobs that would be saved.
Recommendation (b) has been implemented. I refer the hon. Member to the statement on 24th January 1977 by my right hon. Friend announcing the nonferrous foundries industry scheme. Other schemes for improving production techniques are under consideration. I would also refer the hon. Member to the details of the new product and process development scheme given by my right hon.
