HC Deb 27 July 1977 vol 936 c264W
Mr. David Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how much was spent by his Department in collecting information and statistics in the year ended 5th April 1977; what was the equivalent expenditure in the year ended 5th April 1974: and by what percentage it has increased.

Mr. William Rodgers

The main statistical inquiries including regular traffic censuses cost at 1976 prices nearly £0.9 million in 1973℃74 and £2.6 million in 1976℃77. The 1976℃77 figure includes the nonrecurring base data surveys for the regional highway traffic model, which cost £1.6 million. If this is omitted the increase is some 30 per cent.
