Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prisoners remanded in custody have been waiting for trials and for sentence for (a) for over one year three months, (b) for over one year two months, (c) for over one year, (d) for over nine months, (e) six to nine months and (f) for three to six months, respectively.

The information available is given in the table below. Precise figures are not available for those prisoners awaiting trial and sentence for the shorter periods of time and so rounded estimates are given. For many people this period included some time on bail as well as time spent in custody.
