HC Deb 27 July 1977 vol 936 cc255-6W
Mr. Welsh

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what figures he has to show the volume of traffic through the village of Muirdrum on the Arbroath to Dundee road; and on what dates these figures were recorded.

Mr. McElhone

On that section of the A92 trunk road which includes Muir-drum, the most recent figures available show a total average daily flow of 7,160 vehicles per day in August 1975 at a point four miles west of the village, and 4,307 in August 1976 at a point eight miles north of Arbroath

Mr. Welsh

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what criteria his Department adopts to institute special traffic control provisions for built up areas and villages on main roads; and why the village of Muirdrum does not fall within such provisions.

Mr. McElhone

A wide range of controls is available to highway authorities for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic, and criteria vary according to individual measures. In respect of those measures for which the Secretary of State is responsible, the conditions do not justify their implementation at Muirdrum.
