§ 46. Mr. John Huntasked the Secretary of State for Transport in view of the references in the report of the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis for 1976 to the out-of-date or otherwise inaccurate information about the names and addresses of vehicle owners provided by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre and the consequent difficulties which are arising, in the enforcement of the owner-liability provision of the Road Traffic Act 1974, what steps he will take to improve the situation.
§ Mr. HoramThe information provided by the centre can be no better than that given to it by the public, and later this year the centre will make available to the police information provided about the new owner by the seller of a vehicle. Enforcement of the law requiring vehicle owners to notify promptly changes in registration details lies with the police.
