HC Deb 21 July 1977 vol 935 cc675-6W
Mr. Michael Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys' estimate of the growth in population in the period up to 1991 in Northamptonshire; and how many other counties are in the same category.

Mr. Deakins

The latest population projections for counties were produced some 18 months ago and took mid-1974 as their starting point. The population of Northamptonshire was projected to increase from 496,000 in 1974 to 653,000 by 1991—a gain of 157,000, or 32 per cent. Over the period. Of the other counties only Buckinghamshire (45 per cent.) and Cambridgeshire (35 per cent.) had projected increases of over 25 per cent.
