asked the Secretary of State for Energy if figures of nuclear material unaccounted for in relation to the Atomic Energy Authority and British Nuclear Fuels Limited establishments can be made publicly available.

In the interests of publishing the fullest possible information about civil nuclear power, the AEA and BNFL are today releasing figures of plutonium and Uranium unaccounted for in relation to the civil activities of each of their sites for each of the years 1970–71 to 1976–77.

Copies of this statement will be placed in both Libraries.

Figures for future years will be published on an annual basis.

I welcome this action by the AEA and BEFL in making this information available.
