asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many remand prisoners there are in Crumlin Road Prison; and what is the period of remand the accused has to wait before his case is dealt with in the courts.

Mr. Concannon

On 19th July there were 449 remand prisoners in Crumlin Road Prison. The average period between first remand in custody and committal for trial is about 20 weeks.
