HL Deb 18 July 1977 vol 386 c170WA
Baroness MASHAM of ILTON

asked Her Majesty's Government:

For what reason they did not choose the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London as a suitable site for a spinal injury unit.

Lord WELLS-PESTELL

The only decision which has been taken with regard to the siting of a spinal unit is that there should be a new one in the South of England at Odstock Hospital, Salisbury. This decision was taken in the light of a number of factors, not the least of which was the need to have a reasonable geographic spread of the units, and should not be regarded as foreclosing decisions on the suitability of other sites for any future spinal unit.
