Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to his reply of 14th June, why he will not make an approach to the Police Advisory Board to enable a police officer to have the same rights of taking up other employment when finishing his term of policy duty in the same way as is now applied to all other civilian public forces and services.

The regulations governing the activities of off-duty police officers are designed to ensure the proper exercise of the functions of a constable, in particular, the impartial discharge of his duties. Employment may already be taken, with the permission of the chief officer. I am not aware of any substantial dissatisfaction with the position
