HC Deb 04 July 1977 vol 934 cc420-1W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the number of persons in Wales who at the last available date were in receipt of dependent relative allowance; and whether he is satisfied with the take-up of the scheme.

Mr. Orme

I assume the hon. Member has in mind the industrial death benefits payable to relations other than the spouse. Separate figures are not available for Wales. The figures for Great Britain at 31st December 1975, the latest date for which information is available, are:

Under Section 71 of the Social Security Act 1975

210 pensions for parents.

Under Section 72 of the Social Security Act 1975

90 pensions for relatives. In addition there were two temporary allowances for relatives paid during 1975.

I have no reason to think that these benefits are not being taken up by those eligible. Information about the benefits is given in leaflet NI 10 "Industrial death benefits for widows and other dependants".
