HC Deb 18 February 1977 vol 926 cc396-7W
Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) under what circumstances his Department pays for car insurance for a person on social security;

(2) under what circumstances his Department pays for new tyres for cars belonging to persons on social security;

(3) under what circumstances his Department pays for new spare parts for cars belonging to persons on social security;

(4) under what circumstances his Department pays for car servicing for cars belonging to persons on social security.

Mr. Orme

Except for the very rare cases mentioned in my reply to the hon. Member on 2nd February—[Vol. 925, c. 195–6]—the Supplementary Benefits Commission does not meet the cost of car repairs or replacement parts or tyres. It does not in any circumstance help with car insurance.
