Mr. John H. Osborn

asked the Secretary of State for Transport in response to what action by the South Yorkshire County Council he would restore in full the transport supplementary grant of £4 million of 1977–78.

The transport supplementary grant settlement, announced on 14th January—[Vol. 923, c. 620–622]—was made in accordance with the provisions of the Rate Support Grant Order 1976 (S.I., 1976, No. 2203), which fixed the total amount of Exchequer grant for 1977–78. No change for South Yorkshire is now possible.
