asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many people are employed by the Welsh Office in Cardiff; and what were the corresponding figures for the last five years.

On 1st January each year the numbers were:

The changes in this period reflect the continuing growth in the functions of the Welsh Office and its assumption of new responsibilities, including those for health and industrial matters.
