Mr. Henderson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many copies of each of the following newspapers are purchased every day by his Department in order to keep himself and senior civil servants informed on Scottish affairs: the Scotsman, the Glasgow Herald, the Press and Journal, the Daily Record, the Scottish Daily Express and the Dundee Courier and Advertiser;

(2) how many copies of each of the following newspapers are purchased every week by his Department in order to keep him and his senior civil servants informed on Scottish affairs: the Sunday Post, the Sunday Mail and the Scottish Sunday Express.

My Department buys the following Scottish newspapers for use at headquarters and the Department's Central Office in Scotland:

3 The Scotsman.
3 The Glasgow Herald.
1 The Aberdeen Press and Journal.
1 The Daily Record.
1 The Scottish Daily Express.
1 The Dundee Courier and Advertiser.
1 The Sunday Post.
1 The Sunday Mail.
1 The Scottish Sunday Express.

In addition, the Department's local offices in Scotland buy their own local newspapers to keep themselves and ministers informed of appropriate Scottish regional matters.
