HC Deb 15 February 1977 vol 926 c215W
Mr. Crawford

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what would be the annual loss to the Exchequer if the duty on whisky were reduced to levels prevailing on 10th October 1974.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

It is estimated that the loss of revenue from reducing the duty on all spirits would be about £120 million in a full year. Scotch whisky would be expected to account for rather more than half of the reduction in revenue.
