asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will consider allowing tax relief on car journeys to work for those people having to travel a distance of over three miles from their home to place of work in rural areas where there is no alternative public transport.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

I do not think it would be right to single out this particular form of personal expenditure for tax relief.
