HC Deb 10 February 1977 vol 925 c846W
Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if he plans to introduce legislation to bring tobacco substitutes and additives into the orbit of the Medicines Act;

(2) if he plans to give the Independent Scientific Committee on Smoking and Health statutory status.

Mr. Moyle

The Government intend to introduce legislation in the next Session to bring smoking products containing tobacco substitutes and additives within the Medicines Act 1968. An order will then be laid under powers in that Act to establish a statutory committee to perform functions in connection with the licensing of such products for marketing in the United Kingdom.
