§ Miss Richardsonasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many families (i) with incomes below supplementary benefit level but not receiving it, (ii) receiving supplementary benefit and (iii) with incomes up to 140 per cent. of the supplementary benefit level in 1974, 1975 and 1976, respectively, were headed by a woman; how many were headed by a woman in the following categories (a) pensionable age, (b) normally in full-time work, (c) sick or disabled for more than three months, (d) unemployed for more than three months, and (e) other; and of these how many were single-parent families.
§ Mr. OrmeI regret that information relating to 1976 is not available and that the information requested for 1974 and 1975 could not be obtained without disproportionate cost. A full analysis of the information available for 1972–75 on families at different income levels is given in my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Sowerby (Mr. Madden) on 22nd November 1976 and it would be reasonable to assume that most of the single persons over pension age and a large majority of the single persons with children referred to in that reply would be women.—[Vol. 919, c.1000–4.]
