§ Lord James Douglas-Hamiltonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what would be the total redundancy payments payable if 400 lecturers from Scottish colleges of education, aged about 40 years, of 15 years' service and receiving salaries of senior lecturers, were to become unemployed in pursuance of Government policy.
§ Mr. McElhoneUnder the Redundancy Payments Act 1965 lump sum payments would amount to £480,000. These 789W payment would be offset against any lump sum resettlement compensation which individuals might receive under the Crombie code, which would depend among other things on the individual's position on the salary scale at the time of redundancy; without the details of each case it is not possible to give a precise estimate.
§ Mr. Canavanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether, in view of the Written Answer given to the hon. Member for West Stirlingshire, Official Report, 28th January, columns 795–6, about compliance with the requirement of the Employment Protection Act, he will ensure that the governing bodies of the colleges of education are given the appropriate financial and other information about all the colleges so that they can provide this information to the trade union representatives.
