Mr. Hordern

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will give the number of those allowed into the United Kingdom for permanent settlement for each of the last five years, and to the latest convenient date, broken down by countries of origin.

Dr. Summerskill

Table 1 shows the number of Commonwealth citizens and table 2 the number of foreign nationals accepted for settlement on arrival and on removal of time limit during the period January to September 1976. The available information for 1975 and for previous years is to be found in the published Immigration Statistics.
