HC Deb 09 February 1977 vol 925 c715W
Mr. Ronald Atkins

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what response he has made to the European Assembly's request for negotiations with the French Government to be restarted on the construction of a Channel Tunnel as a European enterprise.

Mr. William Rodgers

I have had no formal request from the Assembly. When I met its Committee on Regional Policy, Regional Planning and Transport on 24th January some members suggested reexamination of the tunnel proposal while others expressed reservations.

Mr. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what discussions have taken place between his Department and the EEC with regard to the possible resumption of work on the Channel Tunnel and its financing; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. William Rodgers

None.
