§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Minister for the Civil Service whether, in view of the fact that under the present arrangements of paying salary and expenses to persons employed in public life, whether on a full or part-time basis, when they take on Government committee work they can and often do receive more than one expense allowance for travel, and subsistence as expended on the same day; and whether he will limit these claims to one for each day's actual expense incurred.
§ Mr. Charles R. MorrisI am not aware of any abuse of the rules governing the payment of travelling and subsistence expenses to members of Government committees. If my hon. Friend will send me particulars of the cases he has in mind, however, I will gladly examine them.
