HC Deb 03 February 1977 vol 925 cc326-427W
Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many places on first degree courses in production engineering were offered by universities and polytechnics in the United Kingdom in 1975–76 and 1976–77; and how many were taken up in each year.

Mr. Oakes

Statistics of places offered are not collected. The number of students admitted to full-time and sandwich first degree courses in production engineering was as follows:

First Year Students

1975–76 166 50
1976–77 (provisional figure) 209 63
Statistics of students admitted to first degree courses in production engineering in combination with another subject are not available. Eight universities offered such courses in 1976–77. In addition many other engineering courses include production engineering.

Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will list in the Official Report the number of first degrees in production engineering awarded in the United Kingdom in each of the past five years.

Mr. Oakes
