asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether a road haulage firm will have immediately to cease operations after 1st January 1978 if the qualified traffic manager, as defined in Statutory Instrument No. 1462 of 1977, dies or leaves full-time employment with the firm for any other reason.

No. Under Regulation 8(4) of the Goods Vehicle Operators (Qualifications) Regulations 1977, in the event of the death of a transport manager. the licensing authority is not required to revoke the operator's licence during a period of up to 12 months-at his discretion-from the occurrence. If the transport manager should leave full-time employment with the firm for any other reason, the licensing authority is not required to revoke the licence during a period not exceeding six months from the occurrence.
