asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what consideration his Department has given to the report by the Monopolies and Mergers Commission on the supply in the United Kingdom of wheat flour and of bread made from wheat flour.

As I told the House on 14th July in reply to a Question from my hon. Friend the Member for Kings-wood (Mr. Walker)—[Vol. 935, c.261–3], the Monopolies and Mergers Commission concluded that neither the monopoly conditions which existed in the supply of flour nor any things done as a result of,

on the United Kingdom's membership of the EEC; and what has been the total cost of all these journeys in 1976 and 1977 so far, respectively.

Figures for the number of journeys are not readily available and could not be provided except at a disproportionate cost. The following figures for costs, however, illustrate the general pattern.

In the absence of any finding of adverse effect on the public interest there were no grounds for action by my right hon. Friend.
