§ Mrs. Wiseasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list those occupations in which workers work on Sundays without receiving a specific premium payment for Sunday shifts.
§ Mr. Goldingpursuant to his reply [Official Report, 29th November 1977; Vol. 940 c. 147], gave the following information:
A wide range of both non-manual and manual groups of workers do not receive specific premium payments for Sunday work, particularly in continuous process industries, agriculture and the provision of services to the public. Regular or occasional Sunday work may nevertheless be taken into account when their rates of pay are determined. Comprehensive detailed information is not available. Those not receiving specific premium payments include Post Office engineers; police and fire services; air transport pilots, airport around staff; nuclear fuel manufacture; wholesale newspaper distribution; some catering workers; the Armed Forces; the Merchant Navy at sea; the clergy, and some other professional, managerial and technical staff eg journalists, doctors and senior management.
