HC Deb 15 December 1977 vol 941 cc302-3W
Dr. McDonald

asked the Secretary of State for Trade how much financial assistance has been given to industry in the form of international trade support in 1976–77.

Mr. Meacher

The best measure of this assistance is expenditure by the British Overseas Trade Board and the Export Credits Guarantee Department. In 1976–77 direct expenditure on export promotion by the British Overseas Trade Board amounted to £15,166,969, net of receipts. Net expenditure by the Export Credits Guarantee Department in support of export business amounted to £472,406,068.
