HC Deb 14 December 1977 vol 941 cc284-5W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Industry (1) what assessment he has made of the value in economic terms of motorway routes for the promotion of industrial investments;

(2) what information he has on the extent to which investments in new factories and plant is dependent upon the existence or construction of a motorway route;

(3) what is his assessment of the correlation between job creation and motorway construction.

Mr. William Rodgers

I have been asked to reply.

Ready access to the motorway network clearly increases the potential of an area for industrial investment. But it is difficult to place an exact value on the benefit of individual motorways to industrial investment or job creation. I shall consider this issue further in the light of the Leitch Report.
