Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will publish a list of the bodies to which he has appointed members during 1976 and 1977, indicating in each case the number of appointees, and distinguishing between paid and unpaid, male and female, Protestant and Roman Catholic and indicating the trade or profession of each.

Where it is appropriate to do so I have regard, in making appointments, to the need for all sections of the Northern Ireland community to be represented, but, in accordance with the law, I do not discriminate on grounds of religious belief for or against any person or class of persons. It would, therefore, be inappropriate to publish figures about appointees' religion. A person's trade or profession is not necessarily relevant to all the appointments I make, but in so far as the latter is available and in reply to the remainder of the Question the information is as follows:
