HC Deb 14 December 1977 vol 941 cc266-7W
Mrs. Bain

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what are the relative costs of Investment in the development of the Craigroyston pumping station scheme on Ben Lomond and the adaptation of Loch Sloy; and what representations he received against constructions of the Craigroyston scheme.

Mr. Gregor MacKenzie

I am advised by the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board that the proposed Craigroyston pumped storage scheme, as at present envisaged, would have a capacity of about 1,600 MW initially, and when completed a capacity of 3,200 MW. The alternative development of the Sloy scheme would have a maximum capacity of 1,600 MW, but the Board estimates that it would cost some 25 per cent. more than the same capacity at Craigroyston; the difference would amount to about £50 million at current prices.

Four representations about the Craigroyston proposals have been received.
