HC Deb 13 December 1977 vol 941 c126W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will give for the longest and most current period of time the number of parliamentary Questions sponsored by his Department, or supplied by his Department to hon. Members.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

The information about such Questions is as follows:

he will give for the latest most convenient stated date the number of known illegal immigrants serving prison sentences, their unexpired period of sentence to serve and their countries of origin; how many entered the United Kingdom before 1973; and whether they will be able to claim residence under his recently announced amnesty.

Dr. Summerskill

According to our records there were no people in prison department establishments in England and Wales on 31st October 1977 serving sentences for illegal entry. Central records do not show how many of those serving sentences for other offences were illegal entrants.
