HC Deb 13 December 1977 vol 941 c191W
Mr. Litterick

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many individuals have been trained in industrial accident prevention up to the minimum level of knowledge laid down by the British Safety Council or the equivalent during the last 12-month period for which this information can be collected.

Mr. John Grant

It is the view of the Health and Safety Commission that as far as possible accident prevention should not be treated as a separate subject, but that health and safety should be fully integrated with the job or skill training for all employees. Such training is often best provided on an in-company basis, which may involve training on and off the job in accordance with training recommendations and guidance provided by Industry Training Boards. It is, however, acknowledged that additional knowledge in accident prevention matters may be needed by individuals in order to make good past deficiencies, as part of refresher training or to up-date previous training. Such training is offered by many organisations but it is not possible to say how many individuals are involved.
