Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will give for the longest and most convenient stated period of time the public funds paid to the chairman of the Horserace Totalisator Board in salaries and expenses; and how many hours per week he is employed in this job.

Dr. Summerskill

The chairman is paid, on the basis of an average commitment of four days a week, a salary of £8,480 a year, and a stage 2 pay supplement of £167.04 a year. He is reimbursed for expenses reasonably incurred up to a maximum of £1,500 a year.
