HC Deb 13 December 1977 vol 941 cc151-2W
Mr. John Hunt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when he expects to complete his consultations with health authorities following the application from district nurses for a statutory period of training of at least one year; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Deakins

The recommendation of the panel of assessors for district nurse training is for a six-months training course followed by three months' supervised practice. The panel has also proposed that employment as a district nurse should be conditional on possession of the district nursing certificate. My Department is about to consult health authorities on both these proposals and hopes to complete consultations by the spring of 1978.
