HC Deb 13 December 1977 vol 941 c158W
Mr. George

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he can estimate the number of burials under the National Insurance Act 1948 for each year since 1965; if he is satisfied with the general arrangements for funerals or cremations under this Act; and what has been the cost of such burials to public funds.

Mr. Deakins

I have been asked to reply.

Arrangements for the burial or cremation of deceased persons under Section 50 of the National Assistance Act 1948 are the responsibility of local authorities. My Department does not collect information on these arrangements or their cost.
