HC Deb 09 December 1977 vol 940 cc932-3W
Mr. Stoddart

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if, in the light of the need to make further progress towards equality of status and opportunity for women, he will introduce legislation to seek to amend Part VI of the Factories Act 1961.

Mr. John Grant

Section 55 of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 gave the Equal Opportunities Commission the duty to keep under review, in consultation with the Health and Safety Commission, Part VI of the Factories Act 1961 and other relevant statutory provisions in so far as they require men and women to be treated differently. My right hon. Friend has asked the Equal Opportunities Commission to put forward their proposals to him by the end of 1978.
