Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is his estimate of the number of males currently in employment in each region of England and Wales; how this compares with the position in 1964; and if he will show the percentage increase or decrease.

Mr. Golding

The boundaries of some regions changed in April 1965. The information in the following table is taken from the continuous series of employment estimates which goes back to 1965 and takes account of discontinuities. In the following table, information is given for male employees in employment for June 1965 and June 1977.
