HL Deb 08 December 1977 vol 387 c1843WA
12 Lord BOYD-CARPENTER

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What decisions affecting the horticultural industry have been taken this year on the basis of the information obtained by means of the October Vegetables for Human Consumption and Flowers Return forOctober 1977, and whether any such decisions were sufficiently significant to justify the cost to the taxpayer and the work by those affected involved in requiring this mandatory return.

Lord STRABOLGI

Information from the October 1977Vegetables for Human Consumption and Flowers Return is still being processed, and will in due course he published. The information will augment knowledge of the industry as a necessary basis for future annual or other policy reviews, such as the review of Food from Our Own Resources now taking place, which need to be factually based. I am sure that the industry recognise the value of surveys of this kind.
