HL Deb 08 December 1977 vol 387 c1843WA
Lord AVEBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What action they have taken on the reported theft of £40 from 6 British seamen in 3 separate incidents by police officers in Buenos Aires; and what advice they will give to British citizens visiting Argentina for the World Cup next year as to how they can protect themselves from harassment by the police.

Lord GORONWY-ROBERTS

Her Majesty's Consul accompanied the seamen when they laid formal complaints with the officer in charge of the appropriate police precinct who promised a full investigation. Her Majesty's Embassy have also raised the incident with the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Government will consider nearer the time what, if any, advice should be given to British visitors to the World Cup match in June 1978.
