§ Mr. Adam Butlerasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list the major road schemes which are awaiting his decision in regard to route, and separately in regard to construction starting dates, in the East and West Midlands areas.
§ Mr. HoramThe following major road schemes in the East and West Midlands Regions are currently awaiting my right hon. Friend's choice of preferred route following public consultation on alternative lines:
- M40—Waterstock-Warwick
- A449—Kidderminster Eastern Bypass
- A.564—Stoke-Derby Link
306 - Al6—Spalding-Gosberton Improvement
- A17—Wigtoft and Sutterton Bypasses, and
- A17—Long Sutton-Sutton Bridge Bypass.
The following scheme in the East Midlands Region is awaiting the decision of my right hon. Friends, the Secretaries of State for Transport and the Environment, to fix the line of the route following a public inquiry into objections to the published proposals:
A17—New Washway Road (Saracen's Head to Laurel Lodge).With regard to starting dates, all schemes in the trunk road programme are at present being reviewed in the light of the principles and priorities set out in the White Paper on Transport Policy. Announcements will be made in due course.
