§ Mr. Staintonasked the Minister for the Civil Service if he will circulate to hon. Members details of the criteria and procedures to be observed in submitting names for the serious consideration of the Public Appointments Unit, together with a statement as to opportunities and policy.
§ Mr. Charles R. MorrisAll names sent to the Public Appointments Unit, regardless of the source of the information, receive serious consideration. There are no formal procedures, but the unit sometimes uses forms as a convenient way of recording relevant information such as age, experience, location and areas of interest. In fact, many more good names are submitted than there are prospective vacancies. The policy of the unit is to make relevant information available as requested to Departments whose Ministers are responsible for making particular appointments. The unit gives advice; it does not itself make appointments.
