HC Deb 01 December 1977 vol 940 cc289-90W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister for the Civil Service whether the full and part-time daily subsistence allowances of up to £23 per day apply to Ministers where they are supplied with meals by the public or private organisation sponsoring or responsible for their visits.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

Subsistence allowances are intended as reimbursements for expenditure incurred, and I would expect Ministers to abate their claims where facilities are provided from other sources. I know that my ministerial colleagues are very aware of the need for economy.
