Mr. Cartwright

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what steps his Department has taken to monitor the effectiveness of the code of practice for the payment of domestic fuel bills.

EEC countries and contacts with specialists abroad will be expanded as fast as possible as the staff of the Institute take up their posts.

Mr. Ashley

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how much money was originally allocated by the Government for capital and running costs for the Institute of Hearing Research; how much money has been actually spent so far on the Institute; and what is the present allocation of money for capital and running costs.

The industries are providing the Department and the consumer representative bodies at regular intervals with information about the operation of the code. The regional gas consumers councils and the area electricity consultative councils also examine particular cases. We shall be keeping the effect of the code under review especially in the light of its operation throughout this winter.
