HC Deb 25 April 1977 vol 930 c202W
Mr. Warren

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will give the technical reasons why more low-power local broadcasting facilities, including Citizens Band services, cannot be introduced in the United Kingdom.

Mr. John

The Government propose, in the light of the recommendations in the Annan Report on the Future of Broadcasting, to consider whether, and, if so how, more low-power local broadcasting stations might be provided. But Citizens Band radio is not a broadcasting service and I would refer the hon. Member to the replies given to the hon. Member for Lewes (Mr. Rathbone) on 19th October 1976—[Vol. 917, c. 368]—and to my hon. Friend the Member for Derby, North (Mr. Whitehead) on 21st October 1976.—[Vol. 917, c. 1634–5.]
