HL Deb 19 April 1977 vol 382 cc121-2WA
Lord PEDDIE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether their attention has been drawn to a recent publication entitled Very Special Intelligence, in which allegations are made against the late Earl Alexander of Hillsborough, in his capacity as First Lord of the Admiralty during the war; and whether they will take the earliest opportunity of denying those allegations.

Lord WINTERBOTTOM

Her Majesty's Government were aware of the publication of this book, which was submitted in manuscript form for official scrutiny before publication. The purpose of that scrutiny was to ensure that the book contained no material whose disclosure would infringe the Official Secrets Acts. Her Majesty's Government have no responsibility for the contents of the book in any other respect.

House adjourned at twenty-four minutes before eight o'clock.
