§ Baroness YOUNGasked Her Majesty's Government:
- (i) how much the Post Office has spent in each of the last five years on advertising its postal and telecommunications services respectively,
- (a) on television and radio;
- (b) in the Press;
- (c) elsewhere;
- (ii) how much it is intended to spend in the same way during the current financial year and during the year following it;
- (iii) how much the current television advertisement featuring Mr. Tommy Steele is costing the Post Office,
- (a) in total;
- (b) with respect to Mr. Steele;
- (iv) how all this expenditure is accountable to Parliament and the public.
§ Lord WINTERBOTTOMThe level of advertising is a commercial matter for the Post Office. The cost is met from the Post Office's own revenues. The noble Baroness should write to the chairman for the information she requires.
